Tracking Prerequisites and Chasing Blockers
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- How to track prerequisites
- How to escalate a blocker
- How to re-plan around a slip
π Quick look back: Last time: Getting Security Approval. You learned how SNWR’s security lead approved the scan plan.
1 The Problem: The London Firewall Change Is Stuck
In week 4, most items are green. But one isn’t:
- The London firewall change is waiting at SNWR’s CAB.
- London scans can’t start without it.
π The fix: Track daily, escalate early, and re-plan so the rest keeps moving.

2 Tracking
- One list, one owner per item.
- A short daily check with the client lead.
- Status: requested, in progress, delivered, tested.
3 Escalating and re-planning
- Ask the owner what’s blocking it.
- Offer help, such as details for CAB.
- Raise it at the status call if it’s still stuck.
- Re-plan: move the blocked work, keep the rest on time.
β Remember: Escalate facts, not blame. ‘PR-07 is waiting for CAB; London moves to week 6’ is enough.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: PR-07, the London firewall change, was stuck at CAB.
π§ Decision: Escalate calmly and move London without delaying Mumbai.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Asked Oliver why it was stuck. CAB wanted more detail.
- Gave Oliver the port matrix rows for London.
- Raised it at Thursday’s call, marked amber.
- Moved London scans to week 6. Mumbai stayed on plan.
β What we verified:
- CAB approved PR-07 the next week.
- Mumbai work was not delayed.
π Evidence: The updated tracker and plan, and I-01 in the RAID log closed.
5 Quick recap
- Track every prerequisite daily.
- Ask what’s blocking, and offer help.
- Escalate facts, not blame.
- Re-plan so the rest of the work keeps moving.
