1 The Problem: Agents Need to Know What to Collect
An installed agent doesn’t collect anything useful on its own. It needs to know:
- What to collect.
- How often.
👉 The fix: Use an ACC policy that sets the checks and the schedule.
2 Policies and checks
Key term: Check
A task the agent runs, such as collecting host details.
Key term: Policy
Says which agents run which checks, and how often.
The default discovery policy runs about once a day. You can adjust it if needed.
3 What comes back
- OS and hardware details.
- Installed software.
- Running processes.
- Network connections.
The data is shaped for IRE, so it matches existing CIs.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
📍 Situation: The first agent was installed on snwr-fin-01.
🧭 Decision: Create the SNWR Finance ACC policy.
🛠️ Steps we took:
- Based it on the default discovery policy.
- Applied it to the six Finance agents.
- Kept the 24-hour schedule.
- Checked snwr-fin-01 sent data after the first run.
✅ What we verified:
- snwr-fin-01’s details reached the CMDB.
- The policy applies only to Finance agents.
📁 Evidence: The policy, listed in the migration matrix.
