The Prerequisites Checklist
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- What a client must provide before scanning
- Why prerequisites cause most delays
- SNWR’s 14 items
π Quick look back: Last time: The Design Review and Sign-Off. You learned how SNWR reviewed and signed the design at gate 2.
1 The Problem: Prerequisites Take Longer Than the Build
The build itself takes days. But before it can start, SNWR must provide hosts, network access and accounts. Each one needs a different team:
- Priya builds hosts.
- Ravi opens firewalls, through CAB.
- Farah approves everything.
π The fix: List every prerequisite, give each an owner and a date, and start them early.

2 Common Discovery prerequisites
- MID Server hosts, with the right OS and size.
- Firewall rules from each MID Server to its targets.
- Outbound HTTPS from MID Servers to the instance.
- Service accounts with the right rights.
- Security approval.
- A change for the first scans.
3 Managing them
- Give each item an ID, owner and due date.
- Send each request in writing, with exact details.
- Track status every day.
- Validate each item when it’s delivered. Don’t just tick it.
β οΈ Heads up: ‘Done’ from the client isn’t the same as ‘working’. Test each item yourself.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: Design is nearly signed. Scans need to start in week 6.
π§ Decision: Build the checklist in week 2, and send every request that week.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Listed 14 items, PR-01 to PR-14.
- Gave each an owner and a due date before week 5.
- Sent the requests in writing.
- Set up a daily 10-minute check with Hana.
β What we verified:
- Every item has an owner and a date.
- All requests were sent by the end of week 2.
π Evidence: The prerequisites tracker, PR-01 to PR-14.
5 Quick recap
- Prerequisites usually take longer than the build.
- Give each item an ID, owner and date.
- Send exact requests in writing.
- Test each item when it’s delivered.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.
1 Why start prerequisites early? Show answer
They involve other teams and approvals, so they take weeks.
2 What’s the difference between ‘done’ and ‘working’? Show answer
The client may say it’s done, but you must test that it really works.
3 How many prerequisite items does Clear View have? Show answer
Fourteen.
Nice work! Clear View’s prerequisites are requested. π
