Roles and Responsibilities (RACI)
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- What R, A, C and I mean
- How to build a RACI for Discovery tasks
- The Clear View RACI
π Quick look back: Last time: Running the Kickoff Call. You learned how to run a 90-minute kickoff call.
1 The Problem: Nobody Is Sure Who Does What
After kickoff, small questions pile up:
- Who creates the Linux account: you or Priya?
- Who decides which fields Discovery may update?
- Who needs to know when a scan runs?
π The fix: Build a RACI: one table that says who does, owns, advises and is told about each task.

2 R, A, C and I
Key term: Responsible
Does the work.
Key term: Accountable
Owns the result and says it’s done. Only one person per task.
Key term: Consulted
Gives advice before the work is done.
Key term: Informed
Is told when it’s done.
β Remember: Every task has exactly one Accountable person.
3 Building the RACI
- List the main tasks from the plan.
- For each, name one Accountable person.
- Add who does it, who advises, and who is told.
- Review it with the client lead, then share it.

4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: Priya and you both thought the other would create the Linux account.
π§ Decision: Build the RACI in week 1 and get Hana to agree it.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Listed 20 tasks from the plan.
- Named one Accountable person for each.
- Marked Farah as Accountable for every scan approval.
- Reviewed the table with Hana, then shared it.
β What we verified:
- No task has two Accountable people.
- Priya confirmed she creates the server accounts, with Farah consulted.
π Evidence: The Clear View RACI, in the project folder.
5 Quick recap
- R does the work. A owns the result. C advises. I is told.
- Each task has exactly one Accountable person.
- Build the RACI from the plan’s tasks.
- Agree it with the client lead, then share it.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.

Nice work! Everyone on Clear View knows their part. π
