Connecting the SNWR AWS Account
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- What a cloud credential is
- What a service account record is
- How SNWR connected AWS
π Quick look back: Last time: Cloud Account and IAM Prerequisites. You learned what Kenji set up in AWS before discovery.
1 The Problem: ServiceNow Doesn’t Know the Account Exists
Kenji’s role is ready. But ServiceNow still doesn’t know about SNWR Production AWS. So:
- There’s nothing to schedule.
- Nothing links the role to the account.
π The fix: Create the cloud credential and the service account record.

2 The two records
Key term: Cloud credential
Holds how Discovery signs in to the cloud, such as using a role.
Key term: Service account
The cloud account record in ServiceNow, linked to a credential.
3 Setting it up
- Create the cloud credential.
- Create the service account for the AWS account ID.
- Link them and pick the MID Server.
- Test that the account’s details can be read.
π‘ Good to know: Menus for cloud setup vary by version. Discovery Admin Workspace and Cloud Discovery Workspace both help.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: The role was approved.
π§ Decision: Connect the account on snwrtest and test.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Created SNWR AWS Discovery using the role.
- Created the SNWR Production AWS service account.
- Linked it to snwr-mid-aws-01.
- Ran a test read.
β What we verified:
- The account’s regions were read.
- No permission errors.
π Evidence: Both records, listed in the migration matrix.
5 Quick recap
- A cloud credential holds how Discovery signs in.
- A service account represents the cloud account.
- Link them to a MID Server and test.
- Set it up on test first.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.
