Managing Defects and Fixes
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- What a defect record needs
- How to fix and retest
- SNWR’s two defects
π Quick look back: Last time: UAT with the CMDB Owner. You learned how Hana ran UAT and signed gate 5.
1 The Problem: Defects Found in Testing Get Forgotten
Testing found two problems. If they’re only mentioned in a call:
- Nobody owns them.
- Nobody checks the fix worked.
π The fix: Log each defect, fix it, retest it and close it.

2 A defect record
- ID and short title.
- Steps to reproduce.
- Expected vs actual.
- Owner and severity.
- Fix and retest result.
3 Fix and retest
- Find the cause.
- Fix it on the build instance.
- Move the fix.
- Retest the failed test case.
- Close with evidence.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: Testing found DEF-01 and DEF-02.
π§ Decision: Log, fix, retest and close both.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- DEF-01: merged the duplicate and fixed the old name (see Finding and Merging Duplicates After Discovery).
- DEF-02: the archiver config used ‘Version=’ with a capital V; made the parse step ignore case.
- Moved the pattern fix and retested TC-11.
- Closed both with evidence.
β What we verified:
- Both defects are closed.
- TC-11 passes.
π Evidence: The defect log, all closed before go-live.
5 Quick recap
- Log every defect with steps, owner and severity.
- Fix, move, retest, close.
- Keep evidence for each.
- Close defects before go-live.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.
1 What caused DEF-02? Show answer
The config file used ‘Version=’ with a capital V, and parsing was case-sensitive.
2 What must happen before a defect is closed? Show answer
The failed test is retested and passes, with evidence.
3 How many defects did Clear View have? Show answer
Two.
Nice work! Clear View is ready for production. π
