Building the Production Migration Matrix
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- What a migration matrix is
- What goes in each row
- SNWR’s matrix
π Quick look back: Last time: Managing Defects and Fixes. You learned how DEF-01 and DEF-02 were logged, fixed and retested.
1 The Problem: ‘Move It to Production’ Hides Many Different Tasks
Discovery isn’t one thing to move. Some items travel in an update set. Others must be rebuilt on snwr. Without a list:
- Items get left behind.
- Production-only items get forgotten.
π The fix: Build a migration matrix: one row per item, with how it moves and how it’s checked.

2 The columns
- Item built on snwrdev.
- How it moves: update set, rebuild, or manual entry.
- What’s production-specific.
- Owner.
- How it’s validated.
3 Why it matters
β Remember: The matrix is your go-live checklist for configuration. If it’s not in the matrix, it won’t be in production.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: Go-live was two weeks away.
π§ Decision: List every Discovery item in one matrix.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Collected items from the design and the build notes.
- Marked how each moves.
- Added owners and checks.
- Reviewed it with Riya.
β What we verified:
- Every item from snwrdev is in the matrix.
- Riya agreed the method for each.
π Evidence: The Clear View migration matrix.
5 Quick recap
- A migration matrix lists every item and how it moves.
- Some items move in update sets, others are rebuilt.
- Each row has an owner and a check.
- If it’s not in the matrix, it won’t reach production.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.
1 Name three columns of the matrix. Show answer
Any three of: item, how it moves, production-specific notes, owner, check.
2 How do credentials reach production? Show answer
They’re entered on snwr, not moved.
3 Who reviewed the matrix? Show answer
Riya Sharma.
Nice work! Clear View’s move to production is mapped. π
