CMDB Health for Discovered CIs
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- The CMDB Health measures
- How to set them for discovered classes
- SNWR’s results
π Quick look back: Last time: Finding and Merging Duplicates After Discovery. You learned how the London file server duplicate was found and merged.
1 The Problem: Quality Needs Measuring Every Day
Clear View’s data is good today. But next month:
- A server might stop being discovered.
- Required fields might go missing.
π The fix: Set CMDB Health for discovered classes and track it in CMDB Workspace.

2 The measures
Key term: Completeness
Are required fields filled?
Key term: Correctness
Are there duplicates or orphans?
Key term: Staleness
Has the CI been updated recently?
π‘ Good to know: Need a refresher? See Fundamentals βΊ CMDB Essentials βΊ CMDB Health & Maintenance for the Health dashboard.
3 Setting it up
- Mark the fields that matter as required for health.
- Set staleness to match the schedule, like 7 days.
- Watch results in CMDB Workspace.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: Hana wanted a way to see quality every day.
π§ Decision: Set health for server classes and show her CMDB Workspace.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Marked the must-have fields for health.
- Set staleness to 7 days for servers.
- Ran the health jobs.
- Showed Hana the results in CMDB Workspace.
β What we verified:
- Server completeness is 88%, up from 41%.
- No stale servers.
π Evidence: Health settings, evidence for AC-03.
5 Quick recap
- Health measures completeness, correctness and staleness.
- Set required fields and staleness per class.
- Watch it in CMDB Workspace.
- SNWR went from 41% to 88% complete.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.
1 What does staleness measure? Show answer
Whether a CI has been updated recently.
2 What staleness did SNWR set for servers? Show answer
7 days.
3 What was SNWR’s server completeness after Clear View? Show answer
88%.
Nice work! SNWR can see CMDB quality every day. π
