Running ACC and Agentless Discovery Together
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- How the two methods can clash
- How to keep them apart
- How reconciliation helps
π Quick look back: Last time: Validating ACC-Discovered CIs. You learned how the Finance servers from ACC were checked.
1 The Problem: Two Methods Could Fight Over the Same Servers
If a schedule’s range included the Finance zone:
- Scans would fail against Finance, filling logs with errors.
- Or, if reachable, two sources would update the same CI.
π The fix: Keep Finance out of IP schedules, and set reconciliation rules for any overlap.

2 Keeping them apart
- Exclude agent-covered ranges from IP schedules.
- Give each server one main source.
- Use reconciliation rules if both must report.
3 If they overlap
Reconciliation rules decide which source updates which field. This stops flip-flopping.
π‘ Good to know: Need a refresher? See CMDB Readiness βΊ Reconciliation and Data Source Precedence for the rules.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: A range set covered 10.10.0.0/16, which includes Finance.
π§ Decision: Exclude the Finance range from IP schedules.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Added 10.10.40.0/26 as an exclusion in the Mumbai range set.
- Checked no IP schedule reaches Finance.
- Confirmed ACC is the only source for Finance servers.
- Raised the change through the template.
β What we verified:
- No failed scans against Finance.
- Finance CIs have one source.
π Evidence: Range set change record.
5 Quick recap
- Don’t let agents and scans cover the same hosts by accident.
- Exclude agent ranges from IP schedules.
- Give each server one main source.
- Use reconciliation rules for real overlap.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.
1 How did SNWR stop IP scans hitting Finance? Show answer
It excluded 10.10.40.0/26 from the Mumbai range set.
2 What stops two sources overwriting each other? Show answer
Reconciliation rules.
3 What’s the only source for Finance servers? Show answer
ACC.
Nice work! SNWR’s two methods work side by side. π
