Setting Up Production MID Servers and Secure Credentials
On this page
In this lesson, you will learn:
- How to prepare production MID Servers
- How to enter credentials safely
- What to check
π Quick look back: Last time: What Is Transported vs Recreated in Production. You learned what moves in update sets and what is set up on each instance.
1 The Problem: Production Secrets Need Extra Care
Production credentials open every SNWR server. If they’re shared by email or chat:
- They can leak.
- Security rules are broken.
π The fix: Have the account owners enter them directly, and test each one.

2 MID Servers
- Install and validate the four production MID Servers.
- Set IP ranges, capabilities and the Mumbai cluster.
- Apply the hardening checklist.
3 Credentials
- Book a short session with each owner.
- The owner types the secret into ServiceNow.
- Test with Quick Discovery on one device.
- Update the credential register.
β οΈ Security: Never send passwords or keys by email or chat.
4 Project Clear View: How We Implemented It
π Situation: Production setup was due in week 10.
π§ Decision: Set up MID Servers, then have owners enter credentials.
π οΈ Steps we took:
- Validated snwr-mid-mum-01/02, snwr-mid-lon-01 and snwr-mid-aws-01 on snwr.
- Priya and Kenji typed their credentials in a shared session.
- Tested each credential with Quick Discovery.
- Updated the credential register.
β What we verified:
- All MID Servers are Up and validated.
- All six credentials tested.
π Evidence: Production setup evidence.
5 Quick recap
- Set up and validate production MID Servers.
- Owners enter production secrets themselves.
- Never email or chat secrets.
- Test each credential with Quick Discovery.
6 Check yourself
Think of your answer first. Then tap to check.
