    1. It is an accounting process that seeks to track fixed assets for the purposes of financial accounting, preventive maintenance, and theft deterrence.
    2. Organizations face a significant challenge to track the location, quantity, condition, maintenance and Depreciation status of their fixed assets.
    3. AMS is giving best way to manage the physical movement of the asset like how many assets are there in the store, how many are assigned to employee and where the asset is lying physically with help of bar code scanning.

What Is an Asset?

An item, entity or thing (tangible or intangible) that holds value, for a company or a person, or has potential.

Examples of assets include estates, resources, equipment, inventory and valuables.

 

Note: Hardware Asset Management and the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) are related, but have different goals. Asset Management focuses on the financial tracking of company property. Configuration management focuses on building and maintaining elements that create an available network of services.

Hardware Asset Management (HAM) – Lab Data

  1. Create a New Hardware model with the following attributes:

      • Manufacturer “HP”
      • Name “E40-80”
      • Model Category “Computer”
      • Asset Tracking Strategy “Leave to Category”
      • Cost “45000”
      • Model Number “80HR-543”
      • Status “In Production”

2. Publish a Model to the Hardware Catalog

3. Create a Vendor Catalog Item for the Lenovo T950 with the following values:

    1. Vendor ” Flipkart “
    2. Product ID “AMZ-LENT950”
    3. Vendor Price “$2,999.00”
    4. Product Model: “HP E40-80”

4. Order and Source an item

    1. Order HP E40-80 from Service Catalog
    2. Once ordered, open associated REQ and approve if necessary
    3. In Procurement, open the REQ, and use the Catalog Task related list to access the Source Request button
    4. Create a purchase order and choose ” Flipkart” as vendor

NOTE: If the Procurement module is not available, do a whole browser refresh, or log out and log back in to the system. It is possible the system was never reloaded after the plugin was installed.

5. Create Stockroom

    1. Name “ServiceNow Helpdesk Stockroom”
    2. Location “Hyderabad India”
    3. Type “Warehouse”
    4. Set Manager to yourself

6. Create a Stock Rule

Create a stock rule for the ServiceNow Helpdesk Stockroom

  • Create a rule that creates a task for the Stockroom Manager to reorder the consumable assets when the quantity falls below 5 to order 10 more from vendor.

7. Create a Contract

Create a New Subscription Contract with the following values:

    1. Vendor “ServiceNow”
    2. Contract Model “Subscription”
    3. Name ” ServiceNow Helpdesk Support”
    4. Start Date “Current date”
    5. End Date “6 Months from Current Date”
    6. Set Approver to the contract
    7. Renewal options to 1 year

8. Associate Assets to Contract

9. Create Contract Rate Cards

Create a Rate Card on the Subscriptions Contract you created with the following values:

    1. Interval “Monthly”
    2. Base cost “$500”
    3. Sales tax “false”
    4. Distribute cost “Allocate cost to contract”

10. Configure depreciation
